Attachments:  Application form for course in statistical methods for diagnostic test accuracy reviews 2013

Date:  17th – 19th July 2013
Venue:  University of Birmingham

Course objectives
• To gain an understanding of the methodological and statistical background underpinning reviews of diagnostic test accuracy.
• To apply the methods in the preparation of Cochrane reviews of diagnostic accuracy.

Course content
The course will be taught by a mixture of interactive lectures and practical sessions, including computing classes using RevMan 5.2, SAS and STATA.

Who should apply?
This course is designed for Cochrane statisticians and methodologists to acquire expertise needed to effectively support Cochrane Review Groups and reviewers in the production of DTA reviews. Participants should be familiar with the basic concepts of multilevel modelling. However,  the main prerequisite is a commitment to supporting review authors and the editorial process (by acting as peer reviewers) in the near future. We are providing one place for each CRG in the first instance, and some places are available for Centre statisticians. Review authors with at least one published Cochrane DTA review protocol, a good understanding of statistical concepts, and willingness to mentor other DTA review authors, may also be considered if a review group does not have an interested statistician or methodologist.

Course fee and accommodation
Course registration (including materials, lunches and coffee) is free of charge. The CRG Coordinating Editor/Centre Director should provide their applicant with a supporting letter submitted with registration confirming that the applicant will provide support for DTA reviews in the future. Participants are expected to meet their travel and accommodation costs.

Registration and contact information
Applicants should complete the following registration form and send it (along with the supporting letter from their CRG/Centre if applicable) to Anne Walker, email: a.walker@bham.ac.uk). The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 3rd May 2013.
